ALAPAHA BLUE BLOOD BULLDOG CLARIFICATION BETWEEN MS. LANE AND MRN
In 1993 when I ( MRN) first talked to Ms. Lane, I did not know the Alapaha was a breed in progress and that Ms. Lane had just loss most of her foundation dogs. When I went to Ms. Lane’s kennel, I was “Stun” to say the least. There were many different kind of breeding that had been done. Some were good, some were bad, and some were very bad. I could not believe all of the inconsistencies in her breed. When I read Ms. Lanes advertisement, I thought that I was going to see a breed of dogs that were true to the characteristics that had been depicted in her Ad. Little, did I know that Ms. Lane was still “experimenting” with the cur dogs, Great Dane, Catahoula bull, Labrador, bull mastiff, American bulldogs, pit bulls, and the Staffordshire bull terrier? The reason I am writing about this is that after the death of Marcelle Ms. Lanes stud dog, she did not have a true “stud dog” with a gene pool that was based upon the White English breed. (Marcelle) was Ms. Lane’s foundation Sire. Marcelle came out with true traits and characteristic of the White English breed. Unlike his litter mate. Marcelle litter mate carried the trait of the pit bull and the Catahoula. I would like to note that this is when Ms. Lane mislead the public especially when she told the story of “Otto”. Ms. Lane had the public believing that they were getting a dog with the same characteristics of Otto. (Otto was a pure White English bulldog). Otto was Ms. Lane’s grandfather (Papa Buck) dog. The fact is Papa Buck did not breed White English bulldogs. I would like to mention that you cannot compare the modern day Alapaha to Otto or an Old Southern bulldog. The reason is the modern days Alapaha have too many different strains of dogs in their gene pool. After the death of Marcelle, Ms. Lane tired to breed one of Marcelle half brother to Marcelle off spring. This male came off of Roseanna (Ms. Lanes) foundation bitch and a Catahoula cur. What a big mistake this was. During that time I was doing the evaluation on all of Ms. Lane’s puppies. Needless to say that the percentage ratio was not good. At that time, I started to share my knowledge of genetic and gene pool with Ms. Lane. Unbeknown to Ms. Lane, that she had bred a dog with weak nerves and a skittish personality into her bloodline. Dogs with these traits cannot tolerate being isolated, restrained and can get obnoxious. This can become a problem when you are breeding for the Merle color bulldogs. Because Ms. Lane had a very small gene pool of Catahoula dogs in her breeding program, the fact is these traits and genes eventually took over her gene pool. The Catahoula is unlike any other dogs that I have been privileged to work with. Their character and traits was bred for Farm utility work and to be a catch dog. You will find a wide range of trait and character when you breed for a Merle color bulldog. I would like to state that I am not trying to “discredit nor undermine nothing Ms. Lane had established, I just want to share my knowledge with the breeders and dog lovers of the Alapaha breed. When I was working with Ms. Lane, my job was evaluating the different traits of each puppy. After evaluation and testing I was able to recommend a particular pup for a particular purpose. No puppy was sold based on looks or color. At this time, I brought (3) three different strains of bulldogs into the Alapaha breed. The bulldogs I brought into the Alapaha line did not have any Catahoula in them. I also bred some of my stud dogs to Ms. Lanes bitches. These males were pure White English and Old Southern bulldogs. Ms. Lane and I also exchanged puppies. The only problem I had with these breeding and exchanges was Ms. Lane did not give me “Credit” are acknowledged me as the owner of the stud dogs with A.R.F. nor did she register me as the breeder of the puppies she received from me. In 1995, I brought this to Mr. Walker’s attention at A.R.F. I spoke to Mr. Walker and sent him a video tape to “validate” everything that was said. This video disclosed other unethical breeding and paper work. At this time, I discussed with Mr. Walker that I would be registering my dogs as Old Southern Bulldogs. You can look at the A.R.F write-up on my website.
The most frequently asked questions: Do I still breed Alapaha? Let me state that the Alapaha is really an Old Southern bulldog and the only reason this breed is called Alapaha is because when Ms. Lane tried to register the Alapaha as an American Bulldog, she was turned down, because her dogs eyes were not the same colors and because of the Merle color of the dogs. At that time, Ms. Lane decided to name her dogs “Alapaha Blueblood Bulldog” in order to register her breed with A.R.F. I would like to state that I had the privilege of screening and helping Ms. Lane re-establish her breeding program after the death of her stud Marcelle. My knowledge of the true traits and characteristic that depicted this breed and the gene pool from Ms. Lanes dogs that I helped reestablish by adding the White English and Old Southern Bulldogs to the Alapaha line. This is when A.R.F. gave me “CREDIT” for helping to the save this breed. So the Answer to the Question is “YES”. I only breed for the authenticity quality of the breed. My breeding of dogs derived from South,Georgia and North,Florida. Only the true characteristic of the breed is the White English bulldogs mixed with the Old Southern Bulldogs (which is the Alapaha). I can honestly say, I have realized the difference in the Alapaha disposition prior to adding the White English and Old Southern bulldogs. Today, there are many breeders that are breeding their dogs from the MRN bulldog bloodline and they don’t know it. For all others that have never heard of me (MRN) and my breeding program, I DO HAVE PURE WHITE ENGLISH AND PURE OLD SOUTHERN BULLDOGS in my breeding program. My White English and Old Southern bulldogs do not have any of Ms. Lanes Bloodline or any other outside bloodline of bulldogs. Finally, there are some registry and people trying to make a big deal about who their dogs should be registered with. From my many years of breeding and training I do not know of any registry or papers that make a dog or a breed. The Authenticity that depict a breed and where the dog derive from is what make the dog and the breed original. MRN (12/2012)
